A Study is the basic working unit in SNPator. Its basis is the dataset upon which the user is going to operate. These data are structured as follows:

• A set of SNPs. Each SNP has to be identified with a code. There is a list of standard information fields that can optionally be filled in order to perform some calculations. The user can also add customized fields (Descriptors) if necessary.

• A set of Samples. Each sample has to be identified with a code. There is also a number of optional information fields that can be filled in order to perform some calculations. The user can add customized fields (Descriptors) if required.

• A list of Genotypes. They correspond to the genotypes obtained after genotyping a set of SNPs in a set of samples. No result can exist if its corresponding SNP or Sample is not included in the SNP or sample set.
  

In order to allow to perform Quality Controls upon results and to ease their direct upload from the standard output files generated by the genotyping facilities, a Study also has a fourth kind of data:

• A list of Raw Genotypes which, after the Quality Control procedures have assured that they are coherent and contain no repetitions, is transferred to the Genotypes table. Once genotyping results are in the Genotypes table, users will be able to work with them.
